Taken on a recent hike in the Dartry Mountains.
I dropped by to see Queen Medhbh for the first time last week.
We spent the afternoon at Trá Bhuí in west Sligo yesterday. A brief window of dry weather in a dreary, rainy week in the West. I even got to break out the wetsuit & get a swim in. I also got to try some very tasty beetroot hummus & flatbread by new vegan / raw food venture Green Warrior from Strandhill which launched at the market there yesterday. Delicious stuff!
Shooting with Aliquo is always a great experience. We've worked together several times now and it's always fun. Aliquo make unique, delicate and elegant jewellery by hand in their studio just off Thomas St. It's gorgeous stuff - I find myself admiring the new collections every time we shoot together. We teamed up once again with the talented, ever-capable Emma from Emma Farrell Makeup and our model was Ellen from Distinct Model Management. Here's the pair of them having a good time on set:
Mullaghmore is stunning on a clear June day.
Summer's definitely arrived in the valley. There's something beautiful about an overgrown Irish hedgerow, isn't there? It's always a shame to see them chopped back. Maybe I'll make a little series of photographs of them before they're cut this year.
Mornings here in Glencar are pretty special. We're planning a trip up the mountain one of these fine days.
Culture is important. It belongs to everyone. Myself and a couple of likeminded individuals want to bring people together to think about it, talk about it and even experience a bit of it in person, with other people, in the best cultural space Sligo has to offer. So, together with the good people at Bluestack Records and Starling Digital, I'm helping to put together a little social experiment in The Model, once a month, on the last Friday, from 5pm-8pm.
Here's how the first one went (photos by Yours Truly):
If all that culture stuff sounds a bit weighty for a Friday evening, you could always just sit back, relax and enjoy some great music, thought-provoking film and tasty food. Our next event is on Friday June 27th. If you can't make it but you like the cut of our collective jib, 'like' Friday Night Social on FB or follow us on @FriSocialSligo on Twitter.
Do join us if you can.
Last month I got to work with Deborah Sherlock of Proactive Nutrition on creating some fitting healthy imagery for her soon-to-be-launched website. I don't think I've ever been in the same room as so many nutrients before! Check out some of the photos below:
It was actually great to get the chance to chat to a professional nutritionist for several hours. There's a huge amount of contradictory - or just plain wrong - dietary information out there. Deborah is an absolute wealth of knowledge when it comes to food and good eating habits, with the education and qualifications to back it up. I've actually changed how I eat since the shoot as a result.
When I was finished shooting, she turned the props into a delicious fruit salad for lunch. I even got to hang out with her dog for a bit. Definitely one of the healthiest and most enjoyable shoots I've done. Thanks, Deborah! :)
